ABOUT US
The Unburdened Project was born out of heartbreak—and out of hope.
The Story That Started It All
"I lost a dear mom friend to suicide. She was overwhelmed caring for her autistic son and struggling financially. She confided in me—but I didn’t know how to help. I founded The Unburdened Project so no parent would ever feel that alone again.

Respite Relief – Short-term caregiving breaks
-
Emergency Help – Groceries, rent, transportation
-
Mental Health Circles – Peer-led and professional support
-
Community Connections – Volunteer match + mentorship
What Makes Us Different?
At The Unburdened Project, we do more than raise awareness—we raise relief. While many organizations provide guidance, referrals, or advocacy, we deliver something often missing: support that shows up when life feels impossible.
Here’s what sets us apart:
1. Real-Life Help, Not Just Referrals
We provide immediate, hands-on relief—respite care, emergency essentials, and mental health support—because parents don’t need more websites to visit. They need groceries, time to breathe, and someone to listen.
2. Born from a Real Loss
This project was founded after losing a dear friend—a mother of an autistic child—to suicide. Her story fuels our mission: to ensure no other parent feels that isolated or unsupported.
3. Parent Mental Health Comes First
Most services center the child. We center the parent—because if they burn out, the whole system collapses. Our work starts with their mental, emotional, and practical needs.
4. Peer-Led + Professional Care
We combine trained volunteer support with licensed mental health professionals. Our approach is rooted in empathy and lived experience, not just credentials.
5. “Support That Shows Up” Isn’t a Slogan—It’s Our Standard
We don’t wait for families to find us. We meet them where they are: in crisis, at home, in need. Whether it’s a warm meal or a weekend off, our support is immediate and deeply personal.
